Reverend Yang Sz-Chen (楊四箴, 1896–1972) was a significant Christian educator and leader in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. He was a founding member and the third principal of Wuxi Furen Senior High School, originally founded in 1918 by Shanghai St. John’s University alumni. Yang led the school from 1926 to 1958, during which it gained a reputation for academic excellence and strict discipline. In 1937, he co-founded the Wuxi Rotary Club and served as its first secretary. The club ceased activities during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II, with members continuing efforts in Shanghai as refugees. After the war, Yang helped revive the club until its dissolution in 1950 due to political changes. He was also an Episcopal Church leader and hospital director. Despite suffering persecution during the Cultural Revolution, his contributions were honored posthumously. His legacy endures through Furen School’s growth and a scholarship fund established in 2018.
