Dr. The Honourable Tang Ping-Yuan (Wusih/Shanghai) 唐炳源博士(無錫/上海)

Dr. The Honourable Tang Ping-Yuan (1898–1971) was a distinguished industrialist and public figure from Wusih (Wuxi), Jiangsu Province. Educated at St. John’s University, Tsinghua, and MIT, he led his family’s textile business before founding the Wusih Rotary Club in 1937 as its charter president. The Second Sino-Japanese War displaced the club’s members to Shanghai. In 1947, Tang migrated to Hong Kong, where he founded South Sea Textile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and became a leading force in the territory’s textile industry. He was instrumental in establishing The Community Chest of Hong Kong in 1968, serving as its first president, and took on key public roles, including membership in Hong Kong’s Legislative and Executive Councils. A generous educational philanthropist, Tang supported MIT, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His honors included the OBE and CBE from Queen Elizabeth II and Japan’s Order of the Sacred Treasure. He passed away in Hong Kong in 1971.

唐炳源博士(1898–1971)是江苏无锡著名的实业家和公共人物,曾就读于圣约翰大学、清华大学和麻省理工学院。他接管并扩展家族纺织企业,1937年创立无锡扶轮社并担任首任社长。抗日战争爆发后,扶轮社成员流亡上海。1947年,唐炳源迁居香港,创办南海纺织有限公司,成为香港纺织业的重要领导者。他在1968年创立香港公益金并任首任主席,积极筹款支持社会福利机构。唐炳源还曾担任香港立法局及行政局非官守议员,并大力支持麻省理工学院、香港理工大学和香港中文大学等教育机构的慈善事业。他荣获英国女王伊丽莎白二世颁发的OBE和CBE勋章,以及日本宝荣章。1971年在香港逝世。
