Reginald David Walker (Hong Kong) 獲嘉(香港)

Reginald David Walker (1892–1952), OBE, MC, was a British civil engineer and military officer renowned for his contributions to railway engineering and wartime defense in Hong Kong. Educated in England, he earned the Military Cross for his service with the Royal Engineers in Palestine during World War I. After working with the Federated Malay States Railways, Walker joined Hong Kong’s Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) in 1934 as Acting General Manager and Chief Engineer. He played a vital role in sustaining rail operations supporting China during the Sino-Japanese War. In the 1941 Battle of Hong Kong, Walker commanded the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps’ field company, managing defensive demolitions before being wounded and interned by Japanese forces until 1945. His postwar health declined, leading to his death in 1952. His legacy endures through a KCR locomotive named after him and a road in Hung Hom, commemorating his significant impact on Hong Kong’s infrastructure and wartime history.
