Edward Cock (1884–1969), MBE, JP, was a distinguished maritime professional and Rotary leader in Hong Kong. Originally from Cornwall, England, he trained as a naval architect at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, and served in the British Royal Navy before relocating to Hong Kong in 1921. Cock became Chief Manager of the Hong Kong & Whampoa Dock Co., Ltd. during the 1930s and 1940s. He contributed significantly to local society as President of the Boy Scouts Association Hong Kong Branch (1934–1940), Commodore of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (1937–1940), and President of the Kowloon Golf Club. Honored with an MBE for his World War I service and Italy’s Insignia of Commendatore for refloating the Conte Verde in 1937, he was interned during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong (1941–1945). After the war, he retired to Jersey and continued his involvement in yachting until his death in 1969, leaving a lasting legacy in Hong Kong’s maritime and civic history.
