Hong Kong Rotarian Chiefs of St. John Ambulance Organization

The Rotary Club of Hong Kong produced six volunteer chiefs of the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Organization (HSJO) between 1940 and 1972, including notable leaders Arthur W. Woo (1940-41) and Tseung Fat-Im (1947-48). These individuals also served as Rotary International officers. HSJO, established in 1884 and affiliated with the global Order of St. John under British royal charters, has long provided first aid, ambulance services, and health training. It became a Priory in 2015, expanding its charitable and medical roles. Leaders such as Kenneth Fung, Kwok Chan, John Louis Marden, and George Choa made significant contributions spanning medicine, education, environmental initiatives, philanthropy, and support for Vietnamese refugees. Their combined leadership strengthened the ties between Rotary service and Hong Kong’s health and social development throughout the 20th century.
