Manchukuo, initially named the State of Manchuria before 1934 and later the Empire of Great Manchuria, was a Japanese puppet state in Northeast China from 1932 to 1945, led nominally by the last Qing emperor Aisin-Gioro Puyi. Following Japan’s 1931 invasion after the Mukden Incident, Rotary International recognized Manchukuo as a distinct “Rotary Country,” with four Japanese-led Rotary clubs established in Dairen (1929), Mukden (1929), Harbin (1930), and Hsinking (1935). These clubs operated within Rotary’s 70th District, covering Japan, Manchuria, Korea, and Taiwan, but were all disbanded in 1940 for undisclosed reasons. The existence of these clubs reflected Japan’s imperial ambitions and caused tensions with Chinese Rotarians. The clubs contributed to civic and social life in the region until Manchukuo’s dissolution following Japan’s surrender in 1945.

Manchukuo, inicialmente chamado de Estado da Manchúria até 1934 e posteriormente Império da Grande Manchúria, foi um estado fantoche japonês no nordeste da China entre 1932 e 1945, liderado nominalmente pelo último imperador Qing, Aisin-Gioro Puyi.
