Eminent Hong Kong Rotarians Honored with Grand Bauhinia Medal

On July 1, 2021, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the government released its annual Honors List featuring the Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM), the highest award under the HKSAR’s Honors and Awards System since 1997. The GBM acknowledges individuals with lifelong, outstanding contributions to Hong Kong and grants recipients the title “The Honorable” with the post-nominal GBM. The medal bears the Bauhinia flower, symbolizing Hong Kong’s identity, and a star representing China. Prominent Hong Kong Rotarians awarded the GBM since 1997 include Dr. Arnaldo de Oliveira Sales (1998), Sir Run Run Shaw (1998), Sir Henry Denis Litton (2000), Sir Harry Fang Sin-Yang (2001), Dr. Maria Tam Wai-Chu (2013), Paul Chan Mo-Po (2017), and Jeffrey Lam Kin-Fung (2023). The honors system also celebrates public service and heroism, with nominations from government bodies, NGOs, and the public.

Em 1º de julho de 2021, comemorando o 25º aniversário da Região Administrativa Especial de Hong Kong (RAEHK), o governo divulgou sua lista anual de homenagens destacando a Medalha Grande Bauhinia (GBM), o maior prêmio do sistema de honrarias da RAEHK desde 1997. A GBM reconhece indivíduos por contribuições vitalícias e extraordinárias a Hong Kong, conferindo aos laureados o título de “The Honorable” e as iniciais pós-nominais GBM. A medalha apresenta a flor de Bauhinia, símbolo da identidade de Hong Kong, e uma estrela que representa a China.
