The Honourable William Ngartse Thomas Tam (Hong Kong) 譚雅士(香港) – the First Rotarian Chairman of Po Leung Kuk 譚雅士大律師– 首位香港扶輪人執掌保良局

The Honourable William Ngartse Thomas Tam, O.B.E., J.P., was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong in 1930 and served as its President from 1936 to 1937. He was the first Rotarian to chair Po Leung Kuk, a Hong Kong organization established in 1878 to protect women and children from kidnapping and exploitation. Tam also served as one of the first Unofficial Members of the Hong Kong Urban Council, appointed by Governor Sir Andrew Caldecott. Prior to leading Po Leung Kuk, he was Deputy Chairman of the organization and Principal Director of Tung Wah Hospital before it became part of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Tam was connected by marriage to Sir Ti-Liang Yang, Chief Justice of Hong Kong (1988–1996) and a former Rotary Club President. His leadership helped Po Leung Kuk continue its mission in addressing social challenges during colonial Hong Kong.
