Sir William Edward Leonard Shenton (1885–1967) was a distinguished English solicitor and civic leader in Hong Kong. Arriving in 1908, he headed the legal firm Deacons and chaired the Union Insurance Society of Canton. From 1927 to 1936, he served as an Unofficial Member of the Hong Kong Executive and Legislative Councils. Knighted by King George V in 1933, Shenton was a founding director of the Hong Kong Rotary Club, established in 1930 through James Wheeler Davidson, known as “The Marco Polo of Rotary.” The club’s first meeting attracted 79 prominent citizens and remains the oldest Rotary club in Greater China. Married to Erica Lucy Denison with two children, Shenton died on 20 November 1967 on the Isle of Wight, England.
