Anabela Fátima Xavier Sales Ritchie is a notable Macanese politician of mixed Chinese and Portuguese heritage. Born in Macao, she earned a master’s degree in Germanic Philology from the University of Lisbon in 1971 and initially worked as a teacher. She entered politics in 1986, joining the Legislative Assembly of Macao and eventually serving as its Vice-President. In 1992, after the death of Assembly President Carlos Augusto Corrêa Paes D’Assumpção, she became the first female President of the Assembly, a position she held until 1999. Ritchie resigned following Macao’s handover to China due to her decision to keep Portuguese nationality but continued as a member until 2001, completing six terms. After retiring from politics, she remained active in local institutions like the University of Macau and the Macau Foundation. She was awarded the Medalha de Valor by Portugal in 1999. Her leadership occurred during key legislative reforms preceding Macao’s sovereignty transfer to China.

Nascida em Macau, formou-se com mestrado em Filologia Germânica pela Universidade de Lisboa em 1971 e trabalhou inicialmente como professora. Entrou na política em 1986, integrando a Assembleia Legislativa de Macau, onde foi Vice-Presidente. Em 1992, após o falecimento do Presidente Carlos Augusto Corrêa Paes D’Assumpção, tornou-se a primeira mulher a presidir a Assembleia, cargo que ocupou até 1999. Renunciou após a transferência de soberania de Macau para a China, por optar por manter a nacionalidade portuguesa, mas continuou como deputada até 2001, completando seis mandatos. Após se afastar da política, manteve-se ativa em instituições locais, como a Universidade de Macau e a Fundação Macau. Foi agraciada com a Medalha de Valor por Portugal em 1999.
