Rotary in Hong Kong and Kowloon in 1952

The April 1952 issue of The Rotarian highlighted Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour, marking the city’s post-war recovery following the Pacific War (1941–1945). The article focused on Dr. Arthur W. Woo (1888–1964), O.B.E., J.P., an obstetrician and gynecologist who revitalized the Rotary Club of Hong Kong and served as its president after its readmission to Rotary International in 1946. Under the guidance of R.I. advisors Dr. Chengting T. Wang and George E. Marden until 1960, the club promoted Rotary activities in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and nearby regions. A major initiative was the establishment of a permanent holiday camp for refugee children in 1953 at Silvermine Bay on Lantau Island, which remains active today as the Silvermine Bay Outdoor Recreation Camp. Dr. Woo was a respected medical professional and community leader, honored with the O.B.E. in 1954.
