Chau Yue-Teng, JP (1872–1933), was a prominent Hainanese merchant and community leader based in Hong Kong. Born in Hainan and educated in Hong Kong and Singapore, he built his fortune through trading and shipping with companies such as Qiong Yuang Chang and Chang Li Ltd. By the 1920s and 1930s, Chau was among Hong Kong’s wealthiest businessmen. He was a founding director of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong in 1930 and a founding chairman of the Hong Kong Hainan Chamber of Commerce (established 1917), representing Hainanese business interests. Chau contributed significantly to education and healthcare, serving as Honorary Principal of Qionghai Middle School and major benefactor of Hainan Hospital, funding expansions honoring his family. He was a Justice of the Peace and director of the Po Leung Kuk charity. His philanthropy and leadership earned recognition from the Republic of China government, leaving a lasting legacy in Hong Kong and Hainan.
