Dr. Yeh Ming-Hsun (1913–2009) was a pioneering Chinese journalist and media executive who played a crucial role in shaping post-war journalism in Taiwan. Born in Fujian Province, he studied at Fukien Christian University and briefly at Stanford University. He was the first Central News Agency correspondent to report from Taiwan after WWII, arriving in October 1945 to cover Japan’s surrender and the Kuomintang government’s takeover. Yeh was a founding member of the Taipei Rotary Club in 1948 and served as its senior surviving charter member decades later. He led numerous media outlets, including China Daily News and Independence Evening Post, and championed press freedom, especially during the turbulent 1947 February 28 Incident. He co-founded Shih Hsin University in 1956, dedicated to journalism education, serving as vice president and later chairman, and received its first honorary doctorate in 2008. Yeh also advanced Taiwanese broadcasting and advertising industries. His lifelong contributions earned him recognition from multiple presidents. His legacy remains integral to Taiwan’s modern media, Rotary history, and civic development.
