Dr. Yang Yung-Ching (1891–1956) was a distinguished Chinese statesman, educationist, and charter member and secretary (1936–1941) of the Soochow Rotary Club (吳縣扶輪社). A graduate of Soochow University (東吳大學) and renowned for his international studies at George Washington University and Wisconsin University, he served as a diplomat and participated in key international events including the Washington Naval Conference (1921–1922). Yang was the first Chinese president of Soochow University, leading it through significant reforms to integrate Western and Chinese education, epitomized by his motto “Nourish the spirit of universal truth; Emulate the perfect man of the ages” (養天地正氣,法古今完人). Under his leadership, Soochow University became one of southeastern China’s premier institutions. Yang promoted collaboration among Chinese and Western traditions and strengthened ties with government and church authorities. His efforts fostered educational modernization and cultural integration during turbulent historical periods, leaving a lasting legacy in Chinese higher education and Rotary history.

Formado pela Universidade de Soochow (東吳大學) e com estudos internacionais na George Washington University e na Wisconsin University, atuou como diplomata e participou de eventos internacionais importantes, como a Conferência Naval de Washington (1921–1922). Yang foi o primeiro presidente chinês da Universidade de Soochow, conduzindo reformas significativas para integrar a educação ocidental e chinesa, sintetizadas em seu lema “Nutrindo o espírito da verdade universal; Emulando o homem perfeito dos tempos” (養天地正氣,法古今完人). 楊永清博士(1891–1956)是中國著名的政治家、教育家,亦為蘇州扶輪社(吳縣扶輪社)1936至1941年創社書記。畢業於東吳大學(東吳大學),並曾於喬治華盛頓大學及威斯康辛大學深造,曾任外交官,參與包括1921-1922年華盛頓海軍會議等重要國際活動。楊為東吳大學首位中國籍校長,推動中西教育融合,以「養天地正氣,法古今完人」為校訓,帶領東吳大學成為中國東南地區著名高等學府。他強調中西合作,並妥善處理與政府及教會的關係。在風雲變幻的歷史時期,楊永清致力教育現代化與文化整合,為中國高等教育及扶輪歷史留下深遠影響。
