Dr. Szeming Sze (1908–1998), a member of the Shanghai Rotary Club and a diplomat of the Republic of China, played a crucial role in founding the World Health Organization (WHO). Educated in the UK, he was instrumental at the 1945 San Francisco Conference, where, along with two other medical experts, he successfully advocated for the inclusion of an international health organization in the United Nations system. Dr. Sze helped draft the WHO’s foundational documents and contributed to the comprehensive definition of health as physical, mental, and social well-being. He actively participated in the 1946 International Health Conference and the WHO Interim Commission. Although he did not work directly for WHO, he served the United Nations in high-level medical and administrative positions until his retirement in 1968. WHO recognizes him as one of its “Founding Fathers,” honoring his significant contributions to its establishment and early development.

O Dr. Szeming Sze (1908–1998), membro do Rotary Club de Xangai e diplomata da República da China, teve papel fundamental na fundação da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS). Educado no Reino Unido, foi decisivo na Conferência de São Francisco de 1945, quando, junto a dois outros especialistas médicos, defendeu com sucesso a criação de uma organização internacional de saúde dentro do sistema das Nações Unidas. O Dr. Sze ajudou a redigir os documentos fundadores da OMS e contribuiu para a definição abrangente de saúde como bem-estar físico, mental e social. Participou ativamente da Conferência Internacional de Saúde de 1946 e da Comissão Interina da OMS. Apesar de não ter trabalhado diretamente para a OMS, serviu às Nações Unidas em cargos médicos e administrativos de alto nível até se aposentar em 1968. A OMS reconhece-o como um dos seus “Pais Fundadores”, honorando suas contribuições importantes para a criação e desenvolvimento inicial da organização.

施思明醫師（1908–1998），上海扶輪社社員暨中華民國外交官，對世界衛生組織（WHO）創建具有關鍵貢獻。他在英國接受教育，並於1945年舊金山會議中，與另外兩位醫學專家共同推動在聯合國體系內設立國際衛生組織。施醫師協助起草世衛組織的創始文件，並參與將健康全面定義為身體、心理與社會福祉。1946年國際衛生會議及世衛組織臨時委員會中，施醫師積極參與。雖未直接在世衛組織任職，卻在聯合國擔任高級醫療與行政職務至1968年退休。世衛組織將其譽為“創始人”之一，以表彰他對該組織成立及初期發展的重要貢獻。
