Dr. Stephen Douglas Sturton (1896–1970) was an English medical missionary who served nearly 30 years at the Church Missionary Society’s Hangchow (Hangzhou) Hospital in Zhejiang, China. Arriving in 1921 with his wife Rose Emily, he became Medical Superintendent in 1928. During the 1937-1945 Japanese occupation, Sturton treated thousands of wounded soldiers and refugees, established Red Cross refugee camps, and despite risks, remained to protect patients. Imprisoned in 1942 by Japanese forces, he was liberated in 1945 and resumed hospital leadership. He helped revive the Hangchow Rotary Club, the first Mandarin-speaking Rotary Club in China. Sturton also advanced leprosy treatment and radiology. Following the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, he left Hangzhou in 1952 and practiced medicine in Hong Kong until his death. His humanitarian contributions continue to be honored in Hangzhou (杭州).

Chegando em 1921 com sua esposa Rose Emily, tornou-se Superintendente Médico em 1928. Durante a ocupação japonesa de 1937 a 1945, Sturton tratou milhares de soldados e refugiados feridos, estabeleceu campos de refugiados da Cruz Vermelha e permaneceu para proteger os pacientes, apesar dos riscos. Foi preso em 1942 pelos japoneses e libertado em 1945, retomando a liderança do hospital. Ajudou a reviver o Clube Rotary de Hangchow, o primeiro clube Rotary falante de mandarim na China. Também avançou no tratamento da lepra e na radiologia. Com a fundação da República Popular da China em 1949, deixou Hangzhou em 1952 e trabalhou em Hong Kong até sua morte.
