Mao Teng-Siao (Taipei) 毛騰霄(臺北)

Mao Teng-Siao, a Taipei Rotarian from a prominent Fukienese family, co-founded Standard Shirts Dyeing, Weaving & Finishing Mills, initially established in Shanghai in 1933. In 1942, the company launched the “SMART Shirt” brand to address wartime shortages of foreign shirts. By the late 1940s, it was the largest shirt manufacturer in the Far East with over 2,500 employees. After the Communist takeover of Shanghai in 1949, Mao moved part of the operation to Taipei, expanding production and workforce there. The company also extended its presence to Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Japan. Throughout the 1950s, Standard Shirts grew domestically and internationally with government support and innovative marketing, becoming a leading textile and apparel manufacturer in the region.
