The Honourable Sir Alasdair Duncan Atholl MacGregor (Hong Kong) 麥理高爵士(香港)

The Honourable Sir Alasdair Duncan Atholl MacGregor (1883–1945) was a distinguished British lawyer and judge who served as Chief Justice of Hong Kong from 1934 until his death in 1945. Educated at the University of Edinburgh and Oxford, MacGregor began his colonial legal career in Nigeria before holding positions as Attorney-General in Trinidad and Kenya. Appointed King’s Counsel in 1927, he succeeded Sir Joseph Horsford Kemp as Chief Justice of Hong Kong and also served on the British Supreme Court for China in Shanghai. Knighted in 1935, MacGregor was interned by the Japanese during World War II at Stanley Internment Camp, where he continued his judicial work. After the war, he swore in the Acting Governor of Hong Kong but passed away aboard a hospital ship en route to England. He is commemorated at Morningside Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Nomeado King’s Counsel em 1927, sucedeu Sir Joseph Horsford Kemp como Juiz-Chefe de Hong Kong e também atuou no Supremo Tribunal Britânico para a China em Xangai. Cavaleiro desde 1935, MacGregor foi internado pelos japoneses durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial no Campo de Internamento de Stanley, onde continuou seu trabalho judicial. Após a guerra, ele empossou o Governador Interino de Hong Kong, mas faleceu a bordo de um navio hospital a caminho da Inglaterra. Está comemorado no Cemitério de Morningside, em Edimburgo.
