Hong Kong Rotary Club Trachoma Clinic in 1950
ENG

Since 1951, the Rotary Club of Kowloon has managed the premises at No. 9 Arran Street, Mong Kok, Hong Kong. It first operated a trachoma clinic treating over 55,000 patients in 19 months to combat infectious eye disease after World War II. In 1977, the facility was transformed into the Far East’s pioneering child assessment center, providing multidisciplinary evaluations and rehabilitation for more than 3,000 children with developmental challenges. After the clinic closed in 2007, the site housed the Music Children Foundation from 2017, offering free music education to underprivileged youth. Currently, the building is being redeveloped as a 22-storey youth hostel, part of the Youth Hostel Scheme led by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development and Rotary Club of Kowloon. Scheduled for construction starting in 2023, the hostel will provide about 90 self-financed units to support working youths aged 18 to 30.
