Bishop John Hind (1879–1958), an Anglo-Irish missionary from Belfast, served as Bishop of the Fukien Diocese in the Anglican Church of the Republic of China from 1918 to 1940. Educated at Trinity College Dublin, he was a founding member of the Foochow Rotary Club in 1933. Hind was dedicated to fostering a truly Chinese church by promoting Chinese leadership and the use of the Chinese language in church affairs. He played a pivotal role in the 1922 National Christian Conference in Shanghai, which led to the creation of the National Christian Council of China. Hind also ordained Chinese women as deacons and supported the consecration of Archdeacon Ding Ing-Ong as the first Chinese assistant bishop in his diocese. His episcopate saw critical historical events such as the Xinhai Revolution, civil unrest, and the Japanese invasion. After retiring in 1940, he wrote memoirs titled Fukien Memories and passed away in Belfast in 1958.
