Dissolved the 3 Rotary Districts in China in 1951

In July 1951, Rotary International officially dissolved its three districts in mainland China, ending its formal activities there. The decision was announced in January 1951 following the resignation of Keats S. Chu, then Governor of District 59, due to the unfavorable political and social climate. The Board merged Districts 58 and 59, terminated inactive clubs, and later dissolved all three districts, placing remaining clubs under an administrative advisor without district affiliation. Keats S. Chu, a former Rotary leader in 天津 and 北京 and participant at Rotary’s 1929 convention, publicly renounced Rotary ideals in a 1951 People’s Daily article. He expressed strong patriotic support for the Chinese Communist Party and its Korean War efforts, symbolized by his donation of a MiG-15 fighter jet to the Chinese People’s Volunteer Air Force, aligning himself with Chairman Mao Zedong’s regime.
