Chau Yue-Teng (Hong Kong) 周雨亭(香港)

Chau Yue-Teng (周雨亭, 1872–1933), JP, was a prominent Hainan-born businessman and philanthropist in British Hong Kong. Educated at Diocesan Boys’ School, he became a leading figure in the Hainanese business community. He co-founded the Kiung Chow Commercial Chamber (later Hong Kong Hainan Chamber of Commerce) in 1917 and led it until his death. Chau was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1930 and served as director of the Po Leung Kuk charity. In late 1930, invited by Governor Sir William Peel, Chau helped establish the Rotary Club of Hong Kong and was a club director. Chau built a successful business empire through firms such as Jebsen & Co. and significantly supported educational and medical institutions in Hainan. After his death, his son Chau Man-Chi donated land for the first Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association headquarters, named the “Chau Yue Teng Building” in his honor, opened by Governor Peel in 1935.

周雨亭(1872-1933),太平绅士,海南籍著名商人及慈善家,活跃于英属香港。早年于拔萃男书室受教育,是香港海南商业界的领军人物。1917年与人合办香港瓊崖商会(后改称香港海南商会),任理事长至逝世。1930年获港督贝璐爵士委任为太平绅士,并任保良局董事。1930年底应贝璐爵士邀请,参与创办香港扶轮社并任理事。周雨亭经营捷成洋行等商号,事业兴隆,积极支持海南的教育和医疗。1933年逝世后,其子周文治慷慨捐地建造香港圣约翰救伤会首座总部大楼,命名为“周雨亭楼”,由贝璐爵士于1935年主持启用仪式。
