Ho Yao (何瑤, 1894–1968), a distinguished Chinese engineer and educator, served as the third President of Yunnan University from 1932 to 1937. Educated partly in the US at Purdue University, he modernized higher education in Yunnan during the Republic of China era. Ho was a founding member and director of the Rotary Club of Kunming (昆明扶輪社), officially chartered in 1937 under Rotary International District 81. Under his presidency, the university was transformed from Provincial Donglu University into Provincial Yunnan University (省立雲南大學) with restructured colleges of Arts and Law, Science and Engineering, and Medicine. He expanded campus facilities, established specialized medical programs, and increased enrollment from about 100 to over 300 students. Politically active, Ho supported patriotic student movements and later served in provincial government technical posts. Wrongly labeled a “rightist” in 1957, he was politically rehabilitated in 1962 and passed away in 1968. He also played a key role in surveying Kunming’s geographic baseline and commemorating the “University Astronomical Point.”

Formado parcialmente nos EUA pela Purdue University, ele modernizou o ensino superior em Yunnan durante a era da República da China. Ho foi membro fundador e diretor do Rotary Club de Kunming (昆明扶輪社), oficialmente constituído em 1937 sob o Distrito 81 da Rotary International. Sob sua presidência, a universidade transformou-se de Universidade Provincial Donglu em Universidade Provincial de Yunnan (省立雲南大學), com reorganização dos cursos em Artes e Direito, Ciências e Engenharia, e Medicina. Expandiu as instalações, instituiu programas médicos especializados e aumentou o número de estudantes de cerca de 100 para mais de 300.
