Dr. James Tak Wu (1922–2020), born to a Taishan family and educated at Lingnan University in Guangzhou, was a notable Hong Kong businessman and philanthropist. In 1956, he co-founded Maxim’s Caterers with his brother, which grew into one of Asia’s largest restaurant groups with over 2,000 outlets featuring diverse cuisines and franchises. Motivated by racial discrimination, they aimed to offer quality dining for Chinese customers. Wu was a pioneer of Sino-foreign joint ventures, establishing Beijing Air Catering Company in 1980, China’s first enterprise of its kind. A committed education advocate, he helped re-establish Lingnan University College at Sun Yat-sen University and funded scholarships at both Lingnan and the University of Hong Kong. Honored with the Silver and Gold Bauhinia Stars by the Hong Kong SAR government, Wu passed away peacefully in 2020, leaving a lasting impact on hospitality and education in the region.

Em 1956, cofundou a Maxim’s Caterers com seu irmão, que se tornou um dos maiores grupos de restaurantes da Ásia, com mais de 2.000 estabelecimentos oferecendo diversas culinárias e franquias. Motivados pela discriminação racial, eles tinham como objetivo oferecer refeições de qualidade para clientes chineses. Wu foi pioneiro em joint ventures sino-estrangeiras, fundando em 1980 a Beijing Air Catering Company, a primeira empresa desse tipo na China. Defensor da educação, ajudou a restabelecer o Lingnan University College na Sun Yat-sen University e financiou bolsas de estudo tanto na Lingnan quanto na University of Hong Kong. 伍沾德博士（1922–2020），出生于广东台山家庭，曾就读于广州岭南大学，是香港著名企业家和慈善家。1956年，他与兄弟共同创办了美心集团，发展成为亚洲最大的餐饮集团之一，旗下拥有超过2,000家门店，涵盖中、西、日及快餐等多种美食和星巴克等特许经营品牌。因应种族歧视，他们致力为华人顾客提供优质餐饮服务。伍博士是中外合资企业的先驱，1980年创办了中国首家此类企业北京航空餐饮公司。他热心教育事业，积极参与岭南大学重建及设立奖学金，资助岭南大学和香港大学。香港特别行政区政府授予他银紫荆星章和金紫荆星章。他于2020年安详离世，留下了在餐饮和教育领域的重要遗产。
