The Rotary Year begins on July 1 due to historical administrative decisions made in the early 20th century. Rotary’s first fiscal year started on August 18, 1910, following the first international convention in Chicago. Initially aligned with convention dates, an audit in 1912 recommended shifting the fiscal year-end to June 30 to allow sufficient time for financial reporting and delegate determination prior to conventions. This change was approved in April 1913. Subsequently, related schedules, such as membership reporting and publications, were adjusted accordingly. Conventions were held in July or August until 1917, when delegates voted in 1916 to move future meetings to June to avoid summer heat. Since 1913, the Rotary Year officially runs from July 1 to June 30, defining the organization’s annual administrative cycle.
