Rotary International was established in China in July 1919 with the founding of the Shanghai Rotary Club in the Shanghai International Settlement, Republic of China. Over 100 years later, by July 2024, the Rotary movement in Greater China remains vibrant. Throughout its history, many prominent leaders from the Republic of China have held senior Rotary International positions, including board directors, vice presidents, treasurers, and presidents. Key figures include Fong Foo-Sec (Director, 1933-1934), Yen Te-Ching (Director, 1941-1942), Chengting Thomas Wang (Director and 2nd Vice President, 1944-1946), Gary C.K. Huang (Director, Vice President, and President, 2014-2015), Jackson S.L. Hsieh (Director, 2008-2010), Frederick Lin (Director and Treasurer, 2015-2017), Liu Chi-Tien (Director, 2020-2022), and Naomi Luan-Fong Lin (Director, 2024-2026).
