The Rotary Club of Taipei West in the Republic of China engaged in various community projects, both visible and intangible. Their efforts included building playgrounds, a waterfall, and a home for disabled children, along with city clean-up campaigns. They launched a “Smile Campaign” via a local newspaper to foster optimism, distributing their smiling logo on many materials and awarding a $125 prize for the best community smiler. The club also produced a nutrition booklet distributed widely to Rotary clubs across Taiwan, educators, government bodies, the Taiwan Medical Society, and the public. Furthermore, they translated and shared the Rotary International slide script “The Most Important Man” in Chinese with Taiwan’s clubs. Concurrently, the Rotary Club of Taichung enhanced local culture and sports by organizing member visits to industries, sponsoring public concerts, and awarding trophies for provincewide soccer tournaments.
