Nanking Rotary Club Marked Foundation Day in 1936

The Nanking Rotary Club, founded in 1933 as the 11th Rotary club in China and the first in the capital, celebrated Rotary International’s 31st anniversary on February 21, 1936. The event, held at the International Club in Nanking, was presided over by Dr. Hsu Mo, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Club President. Dr. Hsu highlighted Rotary’s founding by Paul Harris in 1905 to foster professional ethics, service to humanity, and international peace. The celebration featured speeches by diplomats, musical performances, and a buffet, attended by 133 guests. Dr. Hsu Mo was a noted Chinese jurist and diplomat, later China’s first judge at the International Court of Justice. The Club’s weekly meetings took place at the International Club within the Foreign Affairs Ministry complex, completed in 1936 and currently part of the Jinjiang Nanjing Hotel.

O evento, realizado no International Club em Nanking, foi presidido pelo Dr. Hsu Mo, Vice-Ministro das Relações Exteriores e presidente do clube. O Dr. Hsu destacou a fundação do Rotary por Paul Harris em 1905 para promover a ética profissional, o serviço à humanidade e a paz internacional. A celebração contou com discursos de diplomatas, apresentações musicais e um buffet, com a participação de 133 convidados. Dr. Hsu Mo foi um renomado jurista e diplomata chinês, posteriormente o primeiro juiz da China na Corte Internacional de Justiça. As reuniões semanais do clube ocorriam no International Club, localizado no complexo do Ministério das Relações Exteriores, concluído em 1936 e atualmente parte do hotel Jinjiang Nanjing.

南京扶轮社于1933年成立，是中国的第十一家扶轮社，也是南京作为首都的第一家扶轮社。1936年2月21日，该社举行了扶轮国际成立31周年纪念活动。活动在南京国际俱乐部举行，由时任外交部副部长兼社长的许墨博士主持。许博士介绍了1905年保罗·哈里斯创立扶轮社，旨在促进专业伦理、服务人类及国际和平。庆典包括外交官致辞、音乐表演和自助餐，共有133位宾客出席。许墨博士是著名法学家和外交家，后成为中国首位国际法院法官。扶轮社的每周例会在位于外交部大楼内的国际俱乐部举办，该大楼于1936年完工，现为锦江南京酒店的一部分。
