George Ernest Marden (1892–1966), known as “Gem” in Rotary circles, was a distinguished British businessman and community leader active in China and Hong Kong. He joined the Shanghai Rotary Club in the early 1920s, serving as its president in 1928–1929. After World War II, he moved to Hong Kong, became a member of the Hong Kong Rotary Club, and served as Governor of Rotary International’s 57th District (covering South China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) in 1949–1950. Marden was the first Hong Kong citizen to serve as a Rotary International Director (1951–1952) and chaired The Rotary Foundation Fellowships. Following the dissolution of Chinese Rotary districts in 1951, he acted as Administrative Advisor for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao (1953–1954). He also led the Hong Kong Boy Scouts Association as president (1953–1959). Founder of Wheelock & Marden Company Limited, he contributed significantly to regional shipping and logistics. His military service in WWII earned him the Military Cross.

Ingressou no Rotary Club de Xangai no início dos anos 1920, onde foi presidente em 1928–1929. Após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, mudou-se para Hong Kong, integrou o Rotary Club de Hong Kong e serviu como Governador do 57º Distrito do Rotary Internacional (que abrange Sul da China, Hong Kong, Macau e Taiwan) em 1949–1950.
