T. C. Loo (盧宗澄, 1906–1995) was a pioneering radio communication engineer and a key figure in developing China’s international radio communications. Born in Zhejiang, he graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1927 and worked at Shanghai International Radio Station. Loo helped establish China’s independent international radio network connecting to the UK, USA, Japan, and Germany. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, he moved the station inland to maintain vital communications. After 1949, he led departments in the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, managing research, equipment domestication, and talent growth. Between 1946 and 1947, he represented China at major international telecom conferences, winning recognition for the Chinese language and securing China’s international callsign block, boosting national telecom sovereignty. He directed the Postal Science Research Institute (1957–1983) and participated in scientific and political organizations until his death in Beijing at age 90.
