Dr. the Honourable Lim Boon-Keng (1869–1957) was a distinguished Singaporean Peranakan physician, social reformer, and educator who played a vital role in both Singapore and China during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Educated at the University of Edinburgh, he pioneered public health reforms, co-founded the Singapore Chinese Girls’ School in 1899, and supported Dr. Sun Yat-Sen’s revolutionary cause as his personal physician and secretary. Lim led Amoy University (厦门大学) from 1921 to 1937, promoting Confucian values alongside modern education. He was a founding member and president (1935–1936) of the Amoy Rotary Club. During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, Lim was compelled to head the Overseas Chinese Association, using this position to safeguard the Chinese community. His legacy is marked by his contributions to medicine, education, politics, social reform, and philanthropy, embodying biculturalism and leadership across Singapore, China, and beyond.
