Dr. Li Hsi-Mou (1896–1975) was a prominent Chinese educator, electrical engineer, and politician who significantly influenced academic and government sectors in the Republic of China. An alumnus of MIT and Harvard, he held key positions such as Dean of Engineering at National Chekiang University, Provost of National Jinan University, Director of the Shanghai Education Bureau, and Deputy Minister of Education in Taiwan. Dr. Li was a pioneer in Rotary history in China, founding the Hangchow Rotary Club (1932), Nanking Rotary Club (1933), and Shanghai West Rotary Club (1948), notably establishing the first Mandarin-speaking Rotary Club. He co-founded the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineers in 1934 and helped reestablish National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. After moving to Taiwan in 1949, he continued his leadership in education and science until his death in Taipei at 80.
