Professor Kenelm Hutchinson Digby (1884–1954) was a British surgeon and academic who played a key role in advancing medical education and surgery in Hong Kong. Educated at Guy’s Hospital, London, he held prominent positions at the University of Hong Kong from 1913 to 1949, including Professor of Anatomy, Surgery, and the Ho Tung Professorship of Clinical Surgery. Awarded the OBE in 1939, Digby was an active member of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong in the 1930s and 1940s. He was interned as a prisoner of war during the Japanese occupation (1941–1945) but returned to his work after the war until retiring in 1949. Renowned for pioneering surgical techniques and immune research, he published extensively and is honored through the University of Hong Kong’s Digby Memorial Fund and Scholarship. His life is documented in the 2006 biography “Digby: A Remarkable Life.”
