Hong Kong Island West Rotary Club – Some Remarkable Stories

The Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island West, founded in 1954, significantly impacted local communities through projects like the 1962 Rotary Village on Mount Davis, providing housing for 64 families displaced by Typhoon Wanda. This important effort was commended by Rotary International President Nitish C. Laharry during his 1963 visit. In 1975, the club became the first club worldwide where all members were Paul Harris Fellows, achieving 88 fellows by 1977-78 in District 345. The club sponsored Rosanna Wong in 1977 for postgraduate social work studies at the University of Toronto. Wong later received a Dame Commander of the British Empire (D.B.E.) in 1997 for her extensive public service in Hong Kong. Her leadership roles included youth services and government advisory positions, and she has served on China’s CPPCC since 2003, earning multiple honorary doctorates for her contributions.
