Maurice Frederick Key, OBE (1886–1969), was a British national from Chester who served as Secretary to the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and was an active member of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong during the 1930s and 1940s. During World War II, under the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong (1942–1945), he was interned as a civilian prisoner at Stanley Internment Camp, which held about 2,800 mostly British nationals under harsh conditions. The internees self-managed the camp amid overcrowding and shortages. After liberation by Allied forces in August 1945, Key published a detailed booklet on his internment experience, first in Australia (1945) and then in Hong Kong (1946), offering important insights into camp life, including rationing, black market activities, education, medical efforts, and resilience during captivity.
