Dr. The Honourable Sir Shouson Chow (1861–1959) was a leading Chinese businessman and public figure in colonial Hong Kong. The first Knight Bachelor to join the Rotary Club of Hong Kong soon after its 1930 founding, he served on the Sanitary Board, Legislative Council, and Executive Council, becoming the first Chinese member of the last in 1926. Born in Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong, Chow was among the first Chinese students sent to study in the U.S. under the Qing dynasty, attending Phillips Academy and Columbia University. He held diplomatic and administrative roles during the late Qing era, including commissioner of the Peking-Mukden Railway. Co-founder of the Bank of East Asia, he was active in civic, educational, and public health initiatives. During Japanese occupation (1941–1945), he cooperated with Japanese authorities to safeguard the Chinese community. Knighted by King George V in 1926, his legacy is commemorated by Shouson Hill in Hong Kong.
