Dr. Reignson C. Chen (陳長桐, 1896–1983) was a distinguished figure in Chinese finance and diplomacy. He served as President of the Taipei Rotary Club (臺北扶輪社) in 1953-1954, a club founded in 1948 and part of Rotary International District 345 from 1960 to 1987. Chen was Managing Director and General Manager of Bank of China in Taiwan (1952-1960) and also led the China Insurance Company. During World War II, he managed U.S. Lend-Lease supplies in Burma and was awarded the U.S. Medal of Freedom. From November 1960 to 1972, he was the Republic of China’s Executive Director at the World Bank Group, representing ROC and other East Asian countries. Chen played a pivotal role in expanding funding for infrastructure and agriculture in East Asia, notably facilitating loans for South Korean irrigation projects. A Tsinghua College graduate and Phi Beta Kappa member, his early activism included leadership in the 1919 May Fourth Movement. After retirement, he lived in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
