Between 1951 and 1987, Rotary activities in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau underwent phases of unification and division. The first clubs appeared in Hong Kong (1930-31), Macau (1947), and Taiwan (1931 under Japanese rule). World War II caused the suspension of recognition for Japanese-controlled territory clubs, including Taiwan. Post-war, Taiwan established a new club in 1948 under the Republic of China. From 1951 to 1960, a special advisor coordinated Rotary efforts across these regions. In 1960, District 345 was formed, uniting Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, led initially by Kwo Keh-Ti. As club numbers grew, splits occurred in 1978 and 1984, culminating in the 1987 separation into District 345 (Hong Kong-Macau) and District 348 (Northern Taiwan), marking continued expansion of Rotary in Taiwan.
