Hong Kong Rotary Club – Charity Ball in aid of Kamp for Kids – 1950

On April 14, 1950, the Hong Kong Rotary Club held a Charity Ball at the Sky Room ballroom, Luna Park, North Point, attracting over 600 guests to support Kamp for Kids, a camp for disadvantaged children. The event ran from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and included performances by Luana Alcaniz, “El Vaco,” a magic act by Mr. Lai Tung-ming from Tientsin, and musical acts by singer Janet Yatskin, pianist George Parks, and Francis X Cleary. A fashion show curated by Mrs. Lila Parks and presented by Linen Chest Limited featured ballet-inspired American designer dresses. Governor Sir Alexander Grantham and Lady Grantham patronized the ball, which was hosted by Jerry O’Donnell of Pan-American Airways. Organized by Al Richardson and charity chair George Lin, the successful event raised funds for the Rotary Club’s child welfare programs, confirming its importance in Hong Kong’s social and charitable calendar.
