The Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northwest initiated a literacy project distributing around 60,000 classic Chinese texts, mainly Confucian works, to schools in mainland China to improve youth literacy. The teaching method involves teachers reading aloud to children under 13, who follow and repeat the passages in their copies, reflecting a traditional Chinese educational practice. This approach enables children to become literate within about one year, aided by the rhythmic and lyrical nature of the readings. Additionally, the club produced a compact disc to support the teaching materials. This project was featured in The Rotarian magazine in July 2001.
