In October 1954, Hong Kong Island, part of the British Crown Colony, welcomed two new Rotary Clubs: Hong Kong Island East and Hong Kong Island West. These clubs expanded the Rotary presence beyond the original Rotary Club of Hong Kong, founded in 1930, and followed earlier development into Kowloon and Portuguese Macao. The Hong Kong Island East club was admitted on April 6, 1954, with Hong Kong Island West joining six days later. Both clubs celebrated their charters together, with 450 Rotarians, guests, and friends attending the joint event. The celebration featured cultural performances, including Cantonese opera and a flute solo, reflecting the growth and community spirit of Rotary in the region.
