Dr. Geoffrey Alton Craig Herklots (Hong Kong) 香樂思博士(香港)

Dr. Geoffrey Alton Craig Herklots (1902–1986) was a British botanist, ornithologist, and author who significantly contributed to the natural history and agriculture of Hong Kong and the Caribbean. He was a Reader in Biology at the University of Hong Kong from 1928 to 1941 and an active member of the Hong Kong Rotary Club during the 1930s and 1940s. As editor of The Hong Kong Naturalist, he played a key role in local natural history. During World War II, after Hong Kong’s 1941 surrender, he was interned at Stanley Camp, where he applied his agricultural knowledge to grow vegetables supporting fellow prisoners. Post-war, he joined the Colonial Service and served as Principal of the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture in Trinidad from 1953 to 1960. Several species bear his name, reflecting his lasting legacy in botany and ornithology.
