Roger D. Arnold (Kunming) 安汝智(昆明)

Roger D. Arnold (安汝智), a charter member and the first secretary of the Kunming Rotary Club founded in 1937, was also the general secretary of the Kunming YMCA. The club, sponsored by the Nanking Rotary Club and established under Governor Dr. Fong Foo-Sec, was the 20th Rotary Club in the Republic of China and met weekly at Hsin Yah Restaurant in English. After the Communist takeover in 1950, Arnold moved to Taipei to continue YMCA work. His YMCA career began in 1913 in Kansas City and extended over four decades serving in Taiyuan, Yunnan, and Kunming. By 1955, Arnold reflected on 42 years with the YMCA and its evolving role in youth development and Christian values. That year marked the YMCA’s centennial, celebrated with an international conference in Paris attended by delegates from Taiwan, affirming its ongoing global commitment to youth engagement.
