Peace and Conflict Prevention-Resolution Month

February is designated as Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month in Rotary since 2015, succeeding World Understanding Month. This month includes Rotary’s founding anniversary on February 23, 1905, now celebrated as World Understanding and Peace Day. Founder Paul P. Harris advocated international service and introduced the tradition of planting “Trees of Friendship” as symbols of peace. In February 1935, during Rotary’s 30th anniversary, Harris planted a Friendship Tree in Shanghai’s Kiaochow Road Park, alongside leaders including President Robert L. Hill; this park is currently the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions Jing’an District Workers’ Stadium. In 1943, Dr. Hsu Mo, former President of Nanking Rotary Club and China’s Minister to Australia, planted a Tree of Friendship in Cootamundra, Australia, further embodying Rotary’s dedication to peace and worldwide friendship.

Fevereiro é designado como Mês da Paz e Prevenção/Resolução de Conflitos no Rotary desde 2015, substituindo o antigo Mês do Entendimento Mundial. Este mês inclui o aniversário de fundação do Rotary em 23 de fevereiro de 1905, agora comemorado como Dia Mundial do Entendimento e da Paz. O fundador Paul P. Harris defendeu o serviço internacional e introduziu a tradição de plantar “Árvores da Amizade” como símbolos de paz.
