S. J. Benjamin Cheng (程樹仁, 1895–1974) was a pioneering Chinese filmmaker and educator from Minhou, Fujian. After graduating from Tsinghua University in 1919, he studied education and film in the United States, earning a Master of Education from Columbia University in 1922 and a cinematographer’s license from the New York Film Academy. Cheng co-founded Shanghai’s Peacock Film Company, directing films including “Peacock Flying to the South” and publishing China’s first film yearbook in 1927. He left the film industry in 1928, managing cinemas and investing in theaters until financial difficulties in 1933. Later, he was chief writer for Shanghai’s Damei Evening Post. During the Anti-Japanese War, he served in the Ministry of Communications in Southwest China. Migrating to Taiwan in 1949, Cheng became president of the Taipei Rotary Club in 1963–1964 and died in Taipei in 1974.

Após graduar-se na Universidade Tsinghua em 1919, estudou educação e cinema nos Estados Unidos, obtendo um mestrado em educação pela Universidade Columbia em 1922 e uma licença de cinematógrafo pela Academia de Filmes de Nova York. Cheng cofundou a Peacock Film Company em Xangai, dirigindo filmes, incluindo “Peacock Flying to the South”, e publicou o primeiro anuário de cinema da China em 1927. Abandonou a indústria cinematográfica em 1928, gerenciando cinemas e investindo em teatros até enfrentar dificuldades financeiras em 1933. Posteriormente, foi redator-chefe do jornal Damei Evening Post em Xangai. Durante a Guerra Antijaponesa, serviu no Ministério das Comunicações no sudoeste da China. 程树仁（S. J. Benjamin Cheng，1895–1974）是福建闽侯籍的中国电影先驱和教育家。1919年毕业于清华大学后，他赴美深造，1922年获得哥伦比亚大学教育硕士学位，并取得纽约电影学院摄影师执照。程氏联合创办上海孔雀影片公司，导演了《孔雀南飞》等影片，并于1927年出版了中国第一本电影年鉴。1928年退出电影业，转而管理电影院及投资剧院，直至1933年遭遇经济困难。此后，他任上海大美晚报总编辑。抗战期间，他在中国西南地区交通部任职。1949年迁居台湾，1963至1964年任台北扶轮社社长，1974年逝世于台北。
