Rotary Club Charter Number

The Rotary Club Charter Number system began with the Rotary Club of Chicago, designated as Club Number 1, dating back to 1913. Initially, club numbers reflected the sequence of admission into Rotary International, but reassignment practices and changing policies over decades have rendered these numbers historically significant but no longer indicative of chronological order. Since July 1, 1951, Rotary International discontinued assigning charter numbers upon membership admission, shifting to computerized ID numbers unrelated to founding order. Historically, many clubs in the Republic of China, including major cities like Shanghai (上海扶輪社), Tientsin, and Peking (北京扶輪社), had official charter numbers assigned from 1919 to 1952. Due to wartime disruptions and the Chinese Civil War, many clubs terminated or were reorganized. In 1951-52, Rotary International dissolved all clubs on mainland China due to political tensions following the Korean War. This decision persisted until the late 20th century, marking a significant pause in Rotary’s presence in mainland China.

Inicialmente, os números dos clubes refletiam a sequência de admissão na Rotary International, mas as práticas de reatribuição e mudanças nas políticas ao longo das décadas tornaram esses números historicamente significativos, mas sem mais indicar ordem cronológica. Desde 1º de julho de 1951, a Rotary International descontinuou a atribuição de números de alvará na admissão, passando para números de identificação computadorizados sem relação com a ordem de fundação. Historicamente, muitos clubes na República da China, incluindo cidades importantes como Shanghai (上海扶輪社), Tientsin e Peking (北京扶輪社), tinham números de alvará oficiais atribuídos entre 1919 e 1952. Devido a interrupções de guerra e à Guerra Civil Chinesa, muitos clubes foram encerrados ou reorganizados.
